About Acyclovir: Acyclovir is used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses. Show more ▾

It treats cold sores around the mouth (caused by herpes simplex), shingles (caused by herpes zoster), and chickenpox. This medication is also used to treat outbreaks of genital herpes. In people with frequent outbreaks, acyclovir is used to help reduce the number of future episodes. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug. However, it is not a cure for these infections. The viruses that cause these infections continue to live in the body even between outbreaks. Acyclovir decreases the severity and length of these outbreaks. It helps the sores heal faster, keeps new sores from forming, and decreases pain/itching. This medication may also help reduce how long pain remains after the sores heal. In addition, in people with a weakened immune system, acyclovir can decrease the risk of the virus spreading to other parts of the body and causing serious infections. A GUANOSINE analog that acts as an antimetabolite. Viruses are especially susceptible. Used especially against herpes.

In 2024, this provider wrote 44 Medicare prescriptions for Acyclovir, about 1.9 times the volume of the typical Texas prescriber of this medication (23.6). Medicare paid an average of $13.24 per fill, versus $14.71 statewide.

About Inqovi: This medication contains 2 ingredients: decitabine and cedazuridine. Show more ▾

It is used to treat a group of blood/bone marrow disorders (myelodysplastic syndromes-MDS) in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. People with MDS may have problems such as infections, anemia, and easy bleeding/bruising. Decitabine is thought to work by helping your bone marrow make normal blood cells. Decitabine also slows or stops the growth of abnormal blood cells that grow too fast and do not work properly. Cedazuridine helps decitabine work better by helping to prevent its breakdown in your body.

Drug use descriptions come from the CMS Medicare Part D Drug Spending Dashboard (2024), and substance definitions from Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) 2026, U.S. National Library of Medicine. They are summaries that do not contain all possible information about a medication and are not individual medical advice. Ask a health care professional about any medication and your specific health needs.
