- Advanced practice midwifery encompasses the independent provision of care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period; sexual and reproductive health; gynecologic health; and family planning services, including preconception care. Midwives provide initial and ongoing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
