About Levothyroxine Sodium: Levothyroxine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). Show more ▾

It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally produced by the thyroid gland. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone is important for maintaining normal mental and physical activity. In children, having enough thyroid hormone is important for normal mental and physical development. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid disorders (such as thyroid cancer). This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels. The major hormone derived from the thyroid gland. Thyroxine is synthesized via the iodination of tyrosines (MONOIODOTYROSINE) and the coupling of iodotyrosines (DIIODOTYROSINE) in the THYROGLOBULIN. Thyroxine is released from thyroglobulin by proteolysis and secreted into the blood. Thyroxine is peripherally deiodinated to form TRIIODOTHYRONINE which exerts a broad spectrum of stimulatory effects on cell metabolism.

About Vitamin D2: Vitamin D (ergocalciferol-D2, cholecalciferol-D3, alfacalcidol) is a fat-soluble vitamin that helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus. Show more ▾

Having the right amount of vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus is important for building and keeping strong bones. Vitamin D is used to treat and prevent bone disorders (such as rickets, osteomalacia). Vitamin D is made by the body when skin is exposed to sunlight. Sunscreen, protective clothing, limited exposure to sunlight, dark skin, and age may prevent getting enough vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D with calcium is used to treat or prevent bone loss (osteoporosis). Vitamin D is also used with other medications to treat low levels of calcium or phosphate caused by certain disorders (such as hypoparathyroidism, pseudohypoparathyroidism, familial hypophosphatemia). It may be used in kidney disease to keep calcium levels normal and allow normal bone growth. Vitamin D drops (or other supplements) are given to breast-fed infants because breast milk usually has low levels of vitamin D. Derivatives of ERGOSTEROL formed by ULTRAVIOLET RAYS breaking of the C9-C10 bond. They differ from CHOLECALCIFEROL in having a double bond between C22 and C23 and a methyl group at C24.

About Synthroid: Levothyroxine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism).

About Trelegy Ellipta: This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (such as wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma and ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Show more ▾

Controlling symptoms of breathing problems helps you stay active. This inhaler contains 3 medications: fluticasone, umeclidinium, and vilanterol. Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing swelling of the airways in the lungs to make breathing easier. Umeclidinium belongs to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics and vilanterol is a LABA medication. Both drugs work by relaxing the muscles around the airways so that they open up and you can breathe more easily. Both drugs are also known as bronchodilators. When used alone, long-acting beta agonists (such as vilanterol) may rarely increase the risk of serious (sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems. However, combination products containing both an inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting beta agonist, such as this product, do not increase the risk of serious asthma-related breathing problems. For asthma treatment, this product should be used when breathing problems are not well controlled with two asthma-control medications (such as inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting beta agonist) or if your symptoms need combination treatment. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden shortness of breath. If sudden breathing problems occur, use your quick-relief inhaler as prescribed.

About Fluticasone-Salmeterol: This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma or ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Show more ▾

It contains 2 medications: fluticasone and salmeterol. Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Salmeterol belongs to the class of drugs known as long-acting beta agonists. It works by relaxing the muscles around the airways so that they open up and you can breathe more easily. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school. When used alone, long-acting beta agonists (such as salmeterol) may rarely increase the risk of serious (sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems. However, combination inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting beta agonists, such as this product, do not increase the risk of serious asthma-related breathing problems. For asthma treatment, this product should be used when breathing problems are not well controlled with one asthma-control medication (such as inhaled corticosteroid) or if your symptoms need combination treatment. Before using this medication, it is important to learn how to use it properly. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks. If an asthma attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler (such as albuterol, also called salbutamol in some countries) as prescribed.

In 2023, this provider wrote 28 Medicare prescriptions for Fluticasone-Salmeterol, about the same volume as the typical Florida prescriber of this medication (30). Medicare paid an average of $130.03 per fill, versus $214.18 statewide.

About Valacyclovir: Valacyclovir is used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses. Show more ▾

In children, it is used to treat cold sores around the mouth (caused by herpes simplex) and chickenpox (caused by varicella zoster). In adults, it is used to treat shingles (caused by herpes zoster) and cold sores around the mouth. Valacyclovir is also used to treat outbreaks of genital herpes. In people with frequent outbreaks, this medication is used to reduce the number of future episodes. Valacyclovir is an antiviral drug. It stops the growth of certain viruses. However, it is not a cure for these infections. The viruses that cause these infections continue to live in the body even between outbreaks. Valacyclovir decreases the severity and length of these outbreaks. It helps the sores heal faster, keeps new sores from forming, and decreases pain/itching. This medication may also help reduce how long pain remains after the sores heal. A prodrug of acyclovir that is used in the treatment of HERPES ZOSTER and HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS INFECTION of the skin and mucous membranes, including GENITAL HERPES.

In 2023, this provider wrote 23 Medicare prescriptions for Valacyclovir, about the same volume as the typical Florida prescriber of this medication (23). Medicare paid an average of $32.06 per fill, versus $50.48 statewide.

About Paxlovid (Eua): The combination of nirmatrelvir tablets and ritonavir tablets is a product that the FDA is allowing to be given for emergency use to treat COVID-19. Show more ▾

The product is also approved to be used in Canada to treat COVID-19. It is used by people who have recently tested positive for coronavirus, have had mild to moderate symptoms for no more than 5 days and are not hospitalized. To receive this product you must also be at high risk for COVID-19 complications due to older age, obesity, or ongoing medical conditions (such as lung or heart disease or diabetes, among others). Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment with nirmatrelvir and ritonavir. Nirmatrelvir is a SARS-CoV-2 main protease inhibitor. It works by preventing the growth of the virus that causes COVID-19. Ritonavir increases (boosts) the levels of nirmatrelvir. This helps nirmatrelvir work better. More information about nirmatrelvir and ritonavir is available from the FDA Fact Sheet for Patients, Parents, and Caregivers for Emergency Use and from the Health Canada Patient Medication Information sheet. There is limited information about how safe and effective the combination of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir is for treating COVID-19. Study results show that nirmatrelvir and ritonavir may help people who have recently tested positive for coronavirus stay out of the hospital. This product is not for use by people who are hospitalized due to COVID-19. The information in this document reflects emerging data, which is evolving and subject to reassessment. Users should be aware of these considerations in their review of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, and it is always the responsibility of treating practitioners to exercise independent judgement in making care decisions.

In 2023, this provider wrote 21 Medicare prescriptions for Paxlovid (Eua), about 84% of the volume of the typical Florida prescriber of this medication (25). Medicare paid an average of $10.98 per fill, versus $10.57 statewide.

About Bisoprolol-Hydrochlorothiazide: This combination medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Show more ▾

Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product contains two medications. Bisoprolol is a beta blocker that works by blocking the effect of certain natural chemicals (such as epinephrine) on the heart and blood vessels. This slows your heartbeat, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart. Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill (diuretic) that works by increasing the amount of urine that you make. This causes your body to get rid of extra salt and water, which probably helps to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. These two drugs are used together when one medication is not controlling your blood pressure. Using these two drugs together can also reduce the amount of each drug you must take, thereby decreasing the chances of side effects.

In 2023, this provider wrote 19 Medicare prescriptions for Bisoprolol-Hydrochlorothiazide, about 86% of the volume of the typical Florida prescriber of this medication (22). Medicare paid an average of $28.22 per fill, versus $39.59 statewide.

About Cyanocobalamin Injection: See also Precautions section. Show more ▾

Cyanocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12 used to prevent and treat low blood levels of this vitamin. Most people get enough vitamin B12 from their diet. Vitamin B12 is important to maintain the health of your metabolism, blood cells, and nerves. Serious vitamin B12 deficiency may result in a low number of red blood cells (anemia), stomach/intestine problems, and permanent nerve damage. Vitamin B12 deficiency may occur in certain health conditions (such as intestinal/stomach problems, poor nutrition, cancer, HIV infection, pregnancy, old age, alcoholism). It may also occur in people who follow a strict vegetarian (vegan) diet.

About Breo Ellipta: This medication is used to prevent and decrease symptoms (wheezing and trouble breathing) caused by asthma and ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Show more ▾

This inhaler contains 2 medications: fluticasone and vilanterol. Fluticasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing the swelling of the airways in the lungs to make breathing easier. Vilanterol belongs to a class of drugs known as long-acting beta agonists. It works by relaxing the muscles around the airways so that they open up and you can breathe more easily. When used alone, long-acting beta agonists (like vilanterol) may rarely increase the risk of serious (sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems.

About this data. The prescription history for DR. LAURENCE EHRLICH MD is compiled from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Part D Prescriber Public Use File for calendar year 2023, the most recent federal release. Figures cover prescriptions filled for Medicare Part D beneficiaries only; prescriptions under private insurance, Medicaid, or self-pay plans are not included. Because prescribing decisions are generally consistent across coverage types, this record offers a useful view of the overall Internal Medicine prescribing approach at this Boynton Beach, FL practice.

Reading the costs. Drug costs are gross amounts paid to pharmacies under Part D, including both plan and beneficiary payments. They are not the price a patient pays at the pharmacy counter. Medications with fewer than 11 claims are excluded from the federal source data, and state comparisons use the average volume among FL prescribers of the same medication. Always confirm current medications and costs directly with the provider and your plan.
