Advanced NPI Registry Search
Search the full NPI registry with precise, field-level filters. Mix and match criteria freely and export your filtered list to CSV.
Sourced from the official NPPES NPI registry. Last updated July 19, 2026. Refreshed weekly.
Search an organization by the name of its Authorized Official (the person who registered the NPI). Most useful for Type 2 organization records.
Filter the NPI Registry by Any Field
The Advanced Registry Search filters the National Provider Identifier registry by specific fields instead of a single search box, so you can build a highly targeted provider list rather than a single lookup. The fields are grouped into collapsible sections, so you open only the ones you need and see at a glance how many filters you have applied. Combine more than a dozen criteria across provider, location, and billing details. It is built for the fast-paced work of medical billers, credentialing specialists, and healthcare administrators.
Advanced Filters: PECOS, Medicare, and UPIN Crosswalks
These are filters a single search box cannot express. Combine any of them to pull exactly the list you need:
- Provider and specialty. Name, Taxonomy Code, NPI number, or NPI Type
- Location and contact. Street Address, City, State, ZIP, Phone, or Fax
- Verify Medicare eligibility. Filter by PECOS enrollment to find providers approved to order and refer for Medicare.
- Check billing status. Filter by Medicare assignment to see whether a provider accepts the Medicare-approved amount as payment in full. This is separate from PECOS: enrollment is about eligibility, assignment is about billing.
- Run legacy identifier crosswalks. Trace an older UPIN back to its current active NPI.
- Find organizations by Authorized Official. Look up a Type 2 organization by the name of the person who registered it.
- Search contact numbers. Match a provider by phone or fax, or by a partial NPI number.
- Export on demand. Download any filtered result set to a clean CSV file for your records, claims work, or credentialing files.
Exact and Partial Matching Modes
Names can be searched two ways. Partial matching, the default, finds close variations and word beginnings, so "Cath" also matches "Catherine" and a maiden name or alternate business name is still found. Turn on Exact matches only when you know the first name, last name, or organization is spelled exactly right and you want to filter out near matches. Exact matching applies to the name and organization fields; the other filters, such as taxonomy, state, and NPI, always match on their own terms.
Tips for Combining Filters
Start with the fields you are most sure of, then add filters to narrow the list. A taxonomy specialty plus a state returns every provider of that type in that state. An organization name plus a PECOS status confirms Medicare eligibility for a specific practice. An Authorized Official name helps you find an organization when you know the person who registered it. A UPIN on its own resolves the matching NPI. If a search returns too many records, add a city, ZIP, or taxonomy to focus it. If it returns nothing, remove your most specific filter, turn off exact matching, or try a partial name, and search again.
Data Source, Accuracy and Update Frequency
The registry behind this tool is rebuilt every week from the latest NPPES release published by CMS, so the data stays close to the official source. Because NPI Profile is an independent, secondary source, there can be a short lag between a provider updating their official record and that change appearing here. Confirm details against the official NPPES registry when you need verification for credentialing, billing, or legal purposes. NPI Profile is not affiliated with NPPES, CMS, or any government agency.
